His first junior races Skujins rode in 2008, but he remained low key. At the Trophée Centre Morbihan Juniors (2.1) he became 21st and at the Flanders-Europ Classic (1.1) he came in as 47th. In the year 2009 he drew more attention. Next to two stages he took the general classification of the Lithuanian stage race Auksinių kopų (NE). In the same year he ended fourth at the Norwegian stage race Norsk Sykle Festival (NE), where he won a stage as well.

In 2010 he disputed his first U23 races with the national team respectively the Latvian Team Rietumu-Delfin. First he poached the Baltic countries, where he became second at the GP Tartu (1.1) and the Lauri Aus Memorial (NE). At the GP Riga (1.2) he celebrated his first pro win.

In Russia he became seventh at the Mayor Cup (1.2) and second at the Memorial Oleg Dyachenko (1.2). In France he took his next stage win at the Tour de Moselle (NE). That lead to the second place overall. In fifth place overall he came in at the Tour du Gévaudan (2.2) and sixth he became at the U23 edition of the sprint classic Paris-Tours (1.2U).

This year Skujins joined the French-Latvian Club La Pomme Marseille. By doing so he qualified to take part in a whole lot of French "shit races". He did this with reasionable success (22th at the Boucles du Sud Ardèche, 19th at the Tour du Doubs and 16th at the Route Adélie de Vitré),

the most remarkable achievement however was his fourth place at the Classic Loire Atlantique (1.1).

Back home in the Baltic countries he reached an eights place at the Tallin-Tartu GP (1.1). Riding for the national selection he was the runner up at the Ronde van Vlaanderen Beloften (1.NC) only beaten by the solo victor Salvatore Puccio.

It can be strongly assumed that he will stay with La Pomme Marseille for at least another year. This club and the French cycling environment in general provide good possibilities for further development. Hand in hand with the Latvian part of the team - that hostels a namesake and possible relative with Raivis Skujins - and some serious Latvian talents outside of this squad, for example Andsz Flaksis - who with Toms Flaksis as well has a namesake and possible relative on the La Pomme team - Skujins will try to establish Latvian cycling back on the international map. The last Latvian on the Mock List, Gatis Smukulis was placed 12th in 2008, did not achieve this unfortunately.

In Copenhagen the Lettish team could be a serious outsider. With Skujins and Flaksis they have to strong riders who can provide a major upset.
